I was looking at that and was going to post about it.

It looks like your average three banger student model horn. But built like an Alex. Look at that quality! Heavy bracing, extensive guard wires, bell kranz. I have a Miraphone Standard Perinet 3v that is kind of like that. Built really well but not like this Alex. It is probably no better blowing horn than a King 1140 or any of the Chinese 3v upright horns but.... Look at the quality! It has been beat around and repaired some but it looks pretty good! And it is an Alex!

I have no need for another 3v upright student horn but it is about the same price as a new Chinese horn. $1200 BIN and Free Shipping!

actually I think it's full-size not 3/4! but it's designed like a 3/4 bottomfeeder student tuba. Maybe useful for a conversion project, but you'd need a crazy dogleg to tie in a different valve section. Maybe it could be CC w/o the giant slide in leadpipe, but you'd have to add back the length of your own tuning slide so unlikely.

21 mm bore = 0.827 in. I had a baritone horn for a while that was this guy's little brother, including the surprisingly large bore. Nice stuff, also came from Colorado. It would be interesting to know more of the story - what era was it, what Alexander made in this line, was the line marketed as student horns in the US ...

I think that's been discussed here a few times before. Nobody knows very much about it. Looks cool, though.

Hm, Eb? Interesting idea, but with that long before-valves tuning slide, I make it too long for Eb. I don't get full Bb length, but my eyeball estimate is terribly inaccurate, and after all I guess the seller is in the best position to know.

163 pictures look different to me - typical German rotary shape with longer bell relative to bows - but maybe this 1950's Alex

Bearing in mind that they're smaller tubas. The 14J is 32 inches tall, right? where this thing is 42 inches. It would be a puzzle - if the seller didn't know.

While I'm in curmudgeon mode - I don't really get why anyone would particularly want to this to "do something" with it, other than play it. I'm guessing it plays fine, but are people thinking that because it's an Alexander bugle it would make a glorious tuba with different valves? There's a lot I don't know about making tubas, but this seems like a sort of distant prospect.

This ebay tuba has been posted before, at a much higher price. It is now at a very reasonable price with free shipping.

Let's see, 41"+ inches tall, .827" valve bore, 16.5" bell, etc. If you look at ALL the pics of this tuba, as well as the size/measurements, it's pretty obvious this is a 4/4 BBb tuba The branches and valve bore are just too big to be an Eb. This tuba is as tall and as big as a 163, but with a simple 3pv valveset. The pistons were prolly made by B&M; the body looks all Alexander to me. And if you count all the open loops, including the one before the valveset, it is a 4-long-loops tuba.
