This horn is not 1880's as the listing states---with that garland, it's 1860's easily...FYI..

Hi-
James D Sheppard opened the first music store in the 'Village of Buffalo' in 1827. Hugh Courtier joined him in Buffalo in the 1850's, coming from NYC. The shield gives it away as to who actually made it...a John F Stratton of NYC ( Courtier worked for Stratton in NYC for a period too, so even more of a give a way) Inst. Other music stores like Oscar Coon of NYC and Wm Hall of NYC also had instruments made with their name on the same type of shield by Stratton. This horn 'only' needs a valve set with tubing, made other tubes, leadpipe, etc. & all n German Silver too!---just a few thousand $$$$'s of work 8) ..
Horn, or bell and some tubing ( bottom bow, top bow, and 3rd bow) are c. 1855-67 ( Sheppard passed in 1867). Would like to buy it being from Buffalo (I was the under bidder when it was on eBay before), but knowing what restoration cost would be, and not knowing if it would even be a player after all the work and expense, I'll pass.....good luck out there. Anyone wants a project, here you go!

PS...plus-I have an OTS Tuba in restoration currently too....
