How many times have we seen this horn up for bids:

Does anyone else remember this gem from the last couple of years? Me thinks horn stinks.

These old Cerveny horns play well, as well as some newer horns that sell for $3000, but there seems to be a reluctance to buy them. With a tuba this old there are almost always issues with the valves, linkages, cracks, etc. If it goes for $700-$800 I think someone will have themselves a good old horn for a reasonable price. I contacted the seller after the last auction and he said it played well.
The soldered-on bell flare is the strangest thing I've seen in a long time...

Come on, only the strangest?

(...and I was hoping I just misinterpreted the picture!)

Okay, one of the strangest--on an old tuba, that is. :P

I'm guessing that the original bell with nickel silver ring was trashed and this was the way someone fixed it. Certainly not an ideal solution, but I suppose it's better than lots of patches.
