I wish someone knew the history behind this horn. I've seen it for sale before. Mr. Lamb was the long time band director of my high school. He was an amazing trumpet player. He was the last person to ever audition for Sousa. He was awarded a trumpet position with Sousa's band the day Sousa died. He was also a member of the US Army band in WWII. Not sure why the horn was made for him. Maybe it was some sort of gift because as far as I know, he wasn't a tuba player.

Why have 3 valves when you can have 6 and a main tuning slide kicker???

Even if that is all of the story we ever hear, it is worth signing on and reading it. Those connections to our past are important. Thanks for sharing it.

I forgot to add that he was 15 years old when Sousa hired him.
