Is this a particularly unusual Helleberg?

Over $200 for a Conn Helleberg seems a bit extreme. I don't even think that this is old enough to make it any different from a new helleberg.

Allow me to show my ignorance and ask the obvious.
Other than the external design of the old ones, precisely how do these things differ from the current Hellebergs and their endless clones? In particular, how does this make them worth $400?
Wouldn't it be cheaper to simply ask any of the numerous mouthpiece makers if they have the dimensions in their files and could they pretty please whip one up without the dents and scratches?
Are these made of some magic material, like playgoodium?

Not, of course, to be confused with the non-alcoholic version (mellophonium) ...schlepporello wrote:Oops! Sorry, my mistake.Chuck(G) wrote:Hmmm, I thought that was mellotonium.schlepporello wrote: I thought playgoodium was usually around 110 proof and came in a bottle.
You know, you unscrew the top and take a drink, then ALL of the music sounds better.

Dang, I was hoping to break $300. I guess the bloom is off that rose.
Let's see how this one does anyways:

Naw... just so's the old ones would fetch more money, and thus create a greater demand for replacement! (besides, where else can you see a neck like that without having to fold down a page?!)TubaTodd wrote:Maybe this is a dumb question.....
BUT....if the orginal Conn Helleberg mouthpiece design was so special, why did they change it? Was it cost of production?
