I’m not saying he didn’t, but a three valve king isn’t exactly what I’d imagine a kid using to audition for a conservatory.

Jim Self seems to have done just fine. :tuba:

I know, it wasn't a conservatory, but it was a top military band...

I'm just hassling you and agree with you for the most part. It just that as I read it, Mr. Self's example popped into my head immediately.

I play next to a high school senior in a community band who sounds like he could get into a conservatory just fine on his upright 3 valve yamaha.

1240 and someone with any chops should be able to impress with one of these.

Perhaps the judges were listening for musical (as opposed to financial) ability.

I never doubted the person. Honestly I’m more just curious why the factoid was in the ad.
