A four valve 3/4 rotary. What's the story with this one? There was a bit of discussion about this on Tubenet awhile back, small bore, apparently like a Wessex "Lightweight" BBb?

It is a little confusing to me, Meinl-Weston 186 and Miraphone 186. I didn't realize that the Meinl's with the same model number were that small. Could be a fun horn for a responsible adult in a quintet maybe? I live about 15 miles from this one.

I picked up this horn today. It’s a jewel! Great range, upper and lower. Quiet, smooth, quick valves. Slides all pull. Minor scratches, a couple of little pings. Nice rolling case with back pack straps. 2 mouthpieces. It’s got a full sound for its size. Kind of a step up from a ybb103.

Let me know if any local guys want to try it out. I did pick it up to resell - but after playing it I’m having second thoughts. (I’ve got a conn 10j and a Martin Handcraft)

Nice review, I'm glad that it turned out well for you. Now I regret not looking at it sooner : )

My son's first tuba was an Anthem. It is a miraphone 186 clone/though a bit heavier. It was a great first tuba for a middle school kid. We bought it directly from the company that imports them. They import them and then check them out - it is a company very much like Wessex. Since they where down the street from me, when my son did something stupid to it (as a middle school kid would). I'd bring it to them to have them fix it. Nice small co.

Oldpatterns, do they still make replacement parts for this model? What is the name of the place?
