Is this a 40K?

Post by Lew »

OK, I just bought this so it's too late, and may have paid a little too much, but thought it would make a nice companion to my 28K (4 valve Eb sousaphone). I was just wondering if anyone could tell by looking which model this was? I think it's a 40K, because it's too small to be a 48K, but was looking for another opinion.

Well my opinion is the same; must be a 40k or 41k because of the size; serial number puts it about 1926; they were inconsistent about marking EVERY type horn with model numbers that far back, I think... I have a 1924 Conn EEb helicon which isn't marked with the model number, either
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

You got it for a great price. I almost bid on it, but I already have a really nice Conn 38K sousaphone. The last 40K that I saw sell on eBay went for almost $3000.

It's on its way to Lee Stofer for a play condition. I can post some photos when it's done if anyone is interested.
