eBay: $50 tuba - this morning

Postby greenbean » Fri Oct 26, 2018 2:40 am

A 4-valve European tuba of some sort was listed on eBay this morning. They said shipping (from Ukraine) would be an "additional charge." Gone now. Did someone here get it?...

I did not get it but wish I had seen it. I picked up two very nice playing Eb tubas from Bulgaria in the last 6 months for not much more than that price. Sometimes great bargains can be had from that part of the world.

Why have 3 valves when you can have 6 and a main tuning slide kicker???

It's back, now at $700. I saw it yesterday and thought about buying it, but figured it was just a listing mistake.

seemingly, a somewhat scaled-down "Kaisertuba".
I don't like rebuilding rotors, and nor to I care for "clockspring" linkage (nor anything that else that is mechanically finicky and inherently noisy). :|
The way that I guess at rotor/piston/casing wear is to estimate it based on external wear.
I probably miss out on some deals due to this.
Whatever...I have so many unfinished projects, I really shouldn't buy anything - ever again - that requires a cosmetic overhaul.

Not to mention the enormous patch on the bottom bow.

However it _does_ appear to be nickel silver, that helps doesn't it?

I've had good luck with this seller. I bought a BBb helicon from him for $300 plus $150 shipping, and two BBb three valve tubas for $200 plus $120 shipping.

Well, I took the plunge on it. We'll see what it's like when it gets here. I was thinking more in historical perspective. Flak Regiment 13 formed 1935 and was stationed in the east during the war. Makes you wonder if it was left behind during the retreat back to Germany. If it could only talk. Anyway, thought having a Luftwaffe tuba would be interesting.
