I'd like to spend 5 minutes with that BBb.

I played one at Lee Sofer’s Atlanta shop years back. Hard to describe how giant these things are. Eat a York style 6/4 and barely burp.

I’ve played about 10min on one that belongs to one of our Texas brethren. It takes a second to figure it out. Mike is right - describing its size is difficult. Surprisingly easy response, but it’s just a different kind of blow.

Doc, the one at Baltimore is Mike’s. He has it there on consignment. I’d love to own one some day.

I figured it was part of the long, slow, large, "you cant take it with you" selloff.

One of the reasons I don't collect much of anything. It's fun for a while, but eventually, it's just a bunch of stuff that nobody else has an interest in possessing in that same format. "Here's all of dad's old _____"

Gotcha. There are a few others I'd like to have out of his collection. If/when he were to sell them, I'd hope it is during a time I'm flush with tuba money.

I know it’s a private collection, and over the years, Mike has provided some photos of a horn here or there, but I would sure love to see the entire thing!

I think that would be difficult from what some of the stuff he’s told me about his stockpile.

It’s impressive, to be sure, and you need a LONG time to see it all.
