It's the newer old style at least (first valve circuit on top and an "unwrapped" third valve). Good horns! The price is under a grand as well.

How hard would it be to track down an upright bell for this, do you think?

^ Just check eBay every now and then. Those King bells are somewhat common if you look long enough. That said, If I were interested in this series of tubas, I'd pick this model (with upright bell) over the older 1241, as well as over the new squat fixed-bell 2341 :!:

Seller already has offer of $1000 plus shipping. For that you can get 1241 with upright bell if no one wants to bid...

As regards the upright bell you might consider picking up a three banger with one for cheap and either keep it as a spare or resell it with the bell front if you find you don't need it. Ed

Apparently deal fell through and enthusiastic offer disappeared. Or maybe the buyer was one of those scams? At any rate, it’s $850 and open for offers so if someone is local with cash in hand can workout a deal.
