"Worth $3,500"...not really. They do play well though.

It WAS used in the Chicago Youth Symphony. That must mean something... It does look pretty straight from the photo shown. Things are worth what you can get someone to pay. It is a fine model horn. Just bought one myself.

Asking price is $2500 - offers considered - so reasonable.

I know $3500 is just a number he tossed out there, but it was marketing to the unsuspecting buyer who doesn't know the trends of used horn values. This horn still probably wont sell for $2500. If the bell was finished, there's a chance. Unfortunately used 4 valve Kings are hovering in the $1500-2000 range on the private market, less on eBay with dents and scratches.

There was one at Baltimore Brass around a year ago that went for just under 3500. They seem to come and go there quite a lot, and don't hang around long. I don't know what's going on with the bell on this one but it almost looks like someone used silver polish on it and didn't wipe it off. But I would rather buy one in beautiful original condition for a little more dough than get one not far away from an overhaul for cheap. I guess it depends on what you want to use it for. I've gone both ways. Got one in the 80's that was pretty much toast and had everything done to it. Dents, first slide flipped, leadpipe, and a valve job. Later got a silver one that looked like it was in a time capsule, built in 59', bought it in 89' and it was(is) original. No comparison, for whatever it's worth. Either way I think they are great sounding versatile tubas....and they don't make that model anymore. Ed

The way these play, they should all be selling for $3500. But sadly that's an anxious buyer giving into the retail model. The used market (when these come up) barely squeak out $1500-2000. Dillon Music has 3 of them for sale right now, all high prices on them considering shipping. They have been sitting for 6 months. Doesn't help that whoever does their website marks 1241's as 2341's either, they should know better.
