Because they can get a whole working valve cluster - the part that might not be completely beat up - of similar vintage for under $600 (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=97282)?

It's not because they're buying mine, that's completely working and even shiny (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=96985).

It took me a few weeks to read through the entire item description.

That tuba is a disaster.

Seriously. Compare to viewtopic.php?f=4&t=97218, at a better price, with free shipping.

That horn is a cockroach. Everything is wrong with it. If you a repair tech and want it for your own use and want something to take to a sausage, beer and polka fest and are planning on drinking and eating a lot, maybe. If you would be paying someone to work on it (if you could get anyone), you would have enough into it that you could have bought a pretty nice used 186 fro the same amount. And the asking price is too high.

I agree with everything above. I cannot see ONE thing this tuba has going for it. Even at $400 suggested above, I think it is a losing proposition.

And they get the crappiest horns imaginable. Ones that should go directly into the shredder. The place is a Roach Motel.

At the onset of the lockdown, a few friends and I were hoping we would see a lot of instruments and gear for low prices, but I've only seen the opposite. I've ended up buying new for a few pieces of gear I wanted because in four months, I haven't seen a used price less than roughly 75% of new, and that's the "good" priced ones. People have been seriously overvaluing the stuff they have.

That being said, that particular store front has been around for a few years, and I'm always amazed at the prices they put on what tends to be, more often than not, scrap metal. They probably get a lot of high school surplus auction instruments and try to sell them off. But they should know that schools auction these off when they're just past the point of hope.

That one looks well past the point of hope, like it was left on the instrument room floor and had to be kicked out of the way every time somebody went in. For 20 years.

Still not as bad of horns as GRWinds OR as bad of photography of the stuff he's selling. (Even though his tend to start pretty cheap, they are worth just about that opening bid in weight of scrap at the recycler).
