Name Change

Postby Mark Finley » Sat Sep 02, 2017 5:21 pm

If anybody is trying to get in touch with me, make a note that I changed my user name.

The name 58Mark came from my efforts to try to help my Dad restore his beloved 1958 Impala, and that plan didn't work out. We ran out of time before we finished the car, and what was left incomplete was beyond my skill level to fix. I sold the Impala today and thousands of parts to go with it. It took a 24 foot enclosed trailer and a 15 foot box truck, and we still didn't get everything in there. The guy had a staggering amount of parts.

Today was emotional, we know the new owner will be much more capable than I am of doing the things the car needs, but I still teared up seeing it being wenched into the trailer. We didn't give dad a funeral, so this was the moment we said goodbye to him.

I completely understand the sentiment. My 63 Gibson ES335 was my dad's. He was a monster guitar player, very skilled on any stringed instrument, actually. When he passed in 2006 it became mine, and I'm in a quandry as to what to do with it still. I play some guitar, but no where near what this axe is deserving of; yet I hate to see this beauty of an instrument in the hands of someone else. It's still at my house, not sure how to let 'er go.
Peace to you and your family.

Hang in there Mark.

Side note, that son of yours looks a bit short standing next to you!
Some old Yorks, Martins and maybe a rotary King...

Yeah, he's only an inch shorter than me, he must have but been standing up straight

He assumed that he would be my height someday, but he didn't quite make it. I told him "don't worry, I'll shrink, you'll be taller eventually"

My folks had a '58 210 when I was little that my Dad drove back and forth to law school before I came along. I understand.
