First horn

Post by danzfat »

I am music ed major looking to but my first horn and wondering if some people could give me some input on some of the horns i am looking at. Such as there build quality ex bracing on horns intonation issues and the overall size of not only the horn but sound. The horns i am lookint at are a Kalison ds 4/4CC, Bohm Meinl 5/4CC, Marzan 4/4CC, and Cerveny 5/4 CC. If it makes a difference i love the way the 4/4 Walter Nirschl year 2000 sounds my teacher has one and i think its a really sweet horn.

You probably want to post this in the main section (Tubenet) to get some responses. This section is intended for feedback on the site and you probably won't get as many responses.

Even so, this is a question that is almost impossible for a stanger to answer for you. Everyone's opinions about particular horns is different, and how they play will be an individual thing too. Of the horns you've mentioned I prefer the Boehm & Meinl or Marzan, depending on which model it is. Why these 4? There are lots of other horns available that would probably be in the same price range. Check the used horns in the shops listed on this site for some examples. I would also suggest that whatever you think you want, review your choice with your teacher, preferably having him/or her go with you to listen when you try some out.
