Please Consider Reasons for the Food Pictures

With due respect, and the knowledge that this and any other thread can be banished, and that any user can be banished, I respectfully offer up this perspective on the food and beer pictures.

I don't believe they are just to fill bandwidth or hard drive space from being bored. One positive thing about this forum is that the members are generally very respectful about posts. In surfing some other forums on other topics, I can personally attest to the higher road this forum takes, and I appreciate that.

But, as people are people, with different backgrounds, positions and perspectives, disagreements are the norm. They should be. We wouldn't have a forum if not. We'd all just be lemmings posting "yes."

The corollary is that we are also emotional beings. So the debates get hot occasionally. Since we are separated by real space, and can't make the usual peace offerings in person to calm down discussions and re-focus the debate, all we are left with are the cyber equivalents. After all, can you really be angry with someone who just offered you a big steak dinner and a tankard of you favourite beverage?

Yes, thank you for your time, bandwidth and hard drive space. And if we met in person, I would offer my tab for beverages. Until then, just where is that beer picture?

Well one thing for sure we can all do to help the bandwidth issue: If you must post a pic, at least make it small. Maybe we need a tutorial on how to resize pics.

The Scoob said it. I always took (or posted) food as a way to say the topic was getting too far off-topic, or that too many people were getting too angry. Perhaps that kind of self-policing was too subtle. Well, for Doc, anyway! Image

Guilty from time to time myself. Won't so it again.

That said, I think that a lot of the time when a thread was steaked it needed it.

There has been a recent rash of trolling and assorted meaness. Ignoring that crap is certainly the high road. Killing off ids clearly set up for trolling would be even better.

My 2 cents.
