Sean, I'm getting slow response and today had a batch of database errors. The last time that happened, you mentioned that some software genius needed to be applied, so maybe your genius is needed again.

The site seems to be getting hammerred more and the server has been grinding slowly. Give me a couple of days to get to it and see if there is a better solution.

Rick, (and others),,
I made a small change which I think might help. Keep me up to date if you see the slowness happen again, and make note of the exact time.
Thanks for the help

But did you just reset a parameter or change the order of some commands or swap out a line of code? What actually causes things like these slowdowns and the MySQL error messages? Just wondering. I would like to learn more about this sort of stuff. Any good books for beginners that you can recommend?
ran optimize on tables with overhead
ran a rebuild on all the BBS related tables to hopefully address any inefficient keys and the like
most importantly, setup the robots.txt files to slow down web crawlers who were nailing the site too fast
if those do not fix the problem then i will have to bring my dbo skillz up to line and address mysql optimization or conversely consider a hardware upgrade, which would be co$tly, perhaps even doubling my operating costs

I was having the same problem earlier today. I had to reload like 100 times before it actually worked.

Sean, thanks. Already today it's much better than it has been for about a week. I'll pay close attention for awhile.

I'm certainly willing to be a part of underwriting, if necessary.

I appreciate the offers, but thanks to the TubeNet Sponsors and Google Ads there is enough revenue to cover the costs if an upgrade were necessary.
I greatly appreciate all the Sponsors who keep the forum paid for.

Likewise. And thanks for doing what you do. I know that you've got things handled now, but if it ever comes to that, let me be the first to offer to auction off Doc's horns.
