TubeNet

I was just looking over the TubeNet stats and noticed we are up to nearly 30,000 page views each day. Takes about 350,000 hits per day on the web server to serve up those pages. During peak hours it is handling over 5 hits per second averaged out.

Sure. That is why things get out of whack sometimes. Sometime this year I might need to upgrade. I have a dedicated server but it is running the SQL database, webserver, email, and shell access all on the same box.

It keeps up fine until I try to do something intense in the shell, do backups, or a bug in the BBS software rears it's ugly head and drives up CPU cycles.

As TubeNet grows in accesses and spam increases through my email accounts little problems become exaggerated. What used to drive the load up to 3 now drives it up to 15 or 20.

Usually things have been trucking along at a comfortable .20-.50 though.

Not bad for a whimpy Athlon XP 2100!

Those view counters to the right are not an accurate gauge of human views. If you notice, each time you click the thread the counter increases by more than just 1. This is either the Google Ads or my ads server doing a rehit, I believe.

What I use to count people views is how many times my ads server spits out a banner ad. It is always a bit higher than the Google ads for some reason. Perhaps people have ad blocking going on?

I also use sitemeter.com to give some stats feedback to me, but frankly their stuff doesn't seem to be all that useful. I look at it every once in a while out of curiosity.

Guilty as charged, and I suspect there are many more. Adblock and a good filterlist make random surfing a lot easier on the eyes and nerves. There are too many sites with too many ghastly in-yer-face banners and popups.

Personally I do try to swich ad blocking off when I visit a worthy site like yours, but sometimes forget. [corbasse switches off adbock right now ]

I guess the little mapping program I emailed you wouldn't work. They say that more than 100 markers isn't pleasing to look at because it clutters the map too much... It was a nice idea though!
