It is. Think more about the "people" part of your observation.musicnstamps wrote:I've found in the past little while that there are a lot more people selling/talking about bass guitars, basses and stuff. I thought that this was a Forum for Tuba People?
What do you think?

seriously, I thnk that a secondary For Sale for low instruments would be a great idea; similar to the way there is a separate ebay forum.tubashaman wrote:there should be another room here for other instruments such as bass and trombone, so we can keep tubenet just about the tuba, also this will make it better organized for people interested about other instruments
but, it should be kept pertinent to music related items tuba players may be interested in and not turn into a free-for-all garage sale

As for myself, I am not a doubler--I play only tuba (I don't think my contrabass trombone is all that different from a BBb tuba, except for the slide). It doesn't bother me that there are double basses, bass guitars, and instruments immediately related to tuba (and MAYBE contrabass trombones and cimbassi), but I don't think there should be anything else up there. I don't think this has been a problem.

That is an idea worth considering, except many items receive questions and the seller responds publicly.bloke wrote:It might be a good idea to completely disable responses to the "for sale" postings. That way, they may be completely deleted when an item is no longer for sale...or deleted and re-posted without 49 "bumps".

B&S BBb Contrabass, no valve... also a B&S G Bass, similar... Both have a red handle to reach seventh position (need it for fifth position on the contrabass). Bought these for under $30 each at a musical instrument store in Alexanderplatz--East Berlin, when I was a soldier stationed with the US Army Band in West Berlin (don't worry, it was legal!)Bob1062 wrote:LoyalTubist wrote: t my contrabass trombone

If I did double, it would almost definitely be on bass.Greg wrote:Don't quite a few tuba players double as bass players?
If I couldn't play tuba for some reason, I would probably switch to bass. Either that or percussion...

If I have anything musical to sell, Tubenet would be the second place I'd go (first, of course, would be the other guys at work).Doc wrote: We feel like we know each other (and many times we do). I'd bet $1K to a dog turd that we'd rather buy a bass from a Tubenet friend than from some random bass player.![]()

I don't mind it, either. It seems reminiscent of a conference when Chick Corea was thought to be able to make it. He couldn't at the last moment, but many people asked "why would we want him here, anyway? He's not a tuba player." Just because he wasn't a tuba player didn't lessen my lack of desire to have him at a tuba conference. He's a great musician, and that should be what matters.

Chick Corea? Man, I'd be there to hear whatever he had to say. He's on a plane way, way, way above me.
That reminds me of a jazz conference where Arturo Sandoval was the big name in attendance. He gave a workshop/lecture and only played on his trumpet maybe a fifth of the time that he was on piano.
All the high school kids were getting bored and restless, but us older college types (even with zero piano chops like me) were completely fascinated by what he was demonstrating on the keyboard.

Once this goes non-beta, it might be a simple solution to those annoying bump issues.
Adding a bump function which can only be used once every 24 hours would clean up the threads. The mention of backing up all files makes me hesitant to wait until the final release is done.
We could still do what Bloke said and disable replies to FOR-SALE posts, so other people can't bump it themselves, though we would no longer be able to reccomend someone elses horn.
Just some brain candy.

bloke "who tries to stay away from other people's horns"
DaTubaKid was correct; affect is the homophone that should be used.

Upon reflection, the effect of this grammatical infection doesn't affect our perfectly confected defection from ineffective rules of English. In fact, FECT has defected to China: http://fect.notlong.com
Now where were we?

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?
