Sean edited the original series of messages but left some posts that quoted [bloke's] posts and that's what he's talking about.

I don't want to invest time here cleaning up off track threads. The times I do happen to stumble across something off course, I'll address it.

Things went off track in that thread and I get chided for not cleaning it up well enough?

whatever.

If there is a problem with a particular post, feel free to instant message me and I will take a look. For people to go off on some tangent about the inappropriateness of soliciting students is BS considering how much good information David Zerkel has contributed here in the past.

I don't need 4,000+ moderators.

People get waaaaaaaaaaay too caught up in the "TubeNet" thing.

OK, now I know whassup. Thanks. Sorry I asked.

Most hard copy publications have a letterbox or business card page for people to subscribe to in order to announce and advertise for such. As we all know, it's been called classified ads in newpapers for, well, forever.

And, of course, there are sponsor websites, like the banner links at the top and side of every thread. Maybe a workable solution is a similar thumbnail page of such, again, by subscription to the persons wishing to post links, banners or availability for whatever, whether looking for paying gigs, open teaching slots available, concert tour iteneraries, etc., short of a full-blown sponsorship.

After all, when the sponsors pay for their banners, it does seem going to the edge to post a new thread and effectively do the same for free on a forum.

Sponsors can pretty much advertise and promote whatever they want wherever they want as long as it does not get crazy, which it never has. Sponsors are what pay my hosting fees and also for other items needed to run the website. Some Sponsors do it out of conscious to support the community and some do it out of good business sense.

Non-sponsors can sell a couple of personal items in the for sale area for free such as horns and the like.

A top shelf pro offering summer lessons to me is nearly the same as Bubba selling his used tuba in the for sale area.

If some person creates a brand new account, especially an anonymous one, and then goes about immediately selling multiple products and services then I get testy.

If someone who is a longstanding member of the board who has and continues to contribute fantastic information then I am not to get too ruffled if he makes a pitch. I have done that with several people. TubaJoe is a good example.

I appreciate instant messages about spamming on this site but in this particular instance this was NOT spam.
