Slowly moving messages

At 9:15PM this evening I sent a message, then wanted to look at it in my "Sent" or "Outbox".

I found that the message I sent at 6:24PM today was still in my "Outbox".

Is there something I should be doing to get my messages out of the Outbox and on their way?
