An avatar is the pic that appears under your name. Technically, the limit is 80x80 pixels, but some of us, myself included, have much bigger ones, as you can see.

It's kind of like your photo ID for the board, but you can change it so really it's just a fashion statement. I went from Dan Quayle to Spiro Agnew to Dr. Strangelove, and guys like Joe (bloke) change their's daily.

Click on "profile" at the top of the page and scroll to the bottom to attach one.

An 'avatar' is a small (yeah right, should be small) picture or icon beneath your name or handle you call yourself in forums or chat rooms. It used to refer to a cartoon or drawing, but that's changed to small pictures. Here's an avatar that is 65 x 65 pixels.

Hey Schlepporello,

I was diggin' your old avatar with the big chair. It made you seem somehow . . . different from the unwashed masses of tuba pickers. This new picture makes you look a little too much like someone who takes the tuba seriously

Andrew,

If you're lacking a local computer geek, email me a pic if you need it resized. Because it DOES make a difference what program you use:

Note the difference in quality. I'd get you one more like the bottom example.
