Readability and usability of the new software

Post by imperialbari »

It is no secret, that I have become sight impaired. My main problem is with lack of contrast, so a lot of fine screen designs in subtle pastel colours and in greys are wasted on me. I commented on the lack of contrast in the text areas during the very first test phase of the new software. Things were improved, and I can read the text at this stage of my cataract development. Fine and well. Please don't mess with this aspect until I get into problems again.

The solution to my problem possible is the reason for another problem I just discovered by plain reading of threads on the main board: It is difficult to tell quotes from plain text. I will not suggest changes of background colours for the reasons mentioned above. To me a frame around the quotes would be helpful. Doesn't have to be heavy or jet-black, as nobody wants obituary look-alikes. If possible round corners of the frame might un-stiffen the visual impression.

The previous software was the same as the Norwegian TubaForum used. When they changed software they ran into a problem, which this present software also presents:

Clicking a link in the old software led to the opening of a new window. That made a return to the originally read posting/text very easy. Now clicking a link causes the disappearance of the page with the link.

At least in one specific context that isn't too smart:

When I prepare a posting with links, I test these links from the Preview page. However an effective link leads to the disappearance of the Preview page. The Norwegian guys remedied that problem. I am sure the TubeNet tech wizzards can do so also.
