That would be really impressive, had not we paid Verizion and comrades $200B for 45Mb service to be deployed this year.

I've got my choice of 256Kb or 1.5Mb.

And now there's a bill before the house for the telcos to meter net traffic and charge you!

America--only we could have invented the darned thing, subsidized the dickens out of it and yet be number 14 in terms of deployment among ndustrialized countries...

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

What's the general cost for this service? Is it commonly available?

Costs are generally cheaper than cable and even dish companies.

The internet costs scale--the cheapest is still fast, and cheaper than cable, bout the same price as DSL. There are faster internet speeds available through FIOS that do cost more.

Its not that widely available yet... use that link to se if you can get it.

Well had it a few days and the speed is outstanding. Downloads are way freakin fast.

Video on Demand is addictive, but the library is not as large as I had invisioned. I thought I was getting the entire HBO library with HBO package and instead get a big chunk of the movies, specials, and series which are showing this month along with some of their greatest hits type specials. I understand the VOD library will be expanding as time goes on. Of course there is also the Free VOD library which includes our 2 year olds most addictive show, Diego. With Video on Demand you can pause, fast forward, and rewind on any of the set top boxes. So on the History Channel VOD I can fast forward through the couple of commercials they sprinkle in there.

I should have gotten a DVR years ago. Now I understand the hooplah over Tivo. Pausing live television and rewinding is pretty cool. I understand soon Verizon will push a software change to their set top boxes to allow control and playback of their DVRs through any other set top box so I can access recordings on the HD DVR from my little TV in the other part of the house.

I REALLY REALLY miss the UHF feature of the Dish Network remote. I now have to point the darn infared jobbie at the receiver with a clear line of sight to operate it. grumble, grumble, grumble.....

Best features are less outages. I would drop connections all the time on the cable modem. Not one drop yet with FiOS. It is raining outside right now. With Dish Network, aproaching storms would block the satellite signal for a bit.

Picture quality on HD stuff is at least as good as Dish if not better. Upconverted standard def stuff might not be as good. It is certainly different to my eye. I think this might have more to do with the upconverter on the HD DVR, because our second box is the cheapo no feature standard box and the picture on the little TV is stellar.

I don't think we have the market cornered on that. There are still hallowed places in America where you don't see it that you do in most of Europe. I think we may have the market cornered on dorn addicts.... But, that could be because, as a people, we are honest enough to admit our weaknesses (even if no one needs to know about them!)
