Many who frequent this board may know a gentleman (sic) named Bart Collins. For those who don't know him, Bart is a founder of the Twin Cities Tuba Band, in Winston-Salem, NC, and was my co host for ITEC 2002. He is a very active amateur tubist and is a lifetime member of ITEA.
At any rate, Bart recently turned the big 6-0, and his wife asked my assistance in "getting him good", as he has done to sooooo many. We decided that sharing a few pictures from over the years in a public forum might just be a good way to do this............
What's that thing growing out of the top of his head in the first picture? Izzat a built-in tuner or something?

Bart and I played together for 5 years in the Westerville Community Band and Tubalicious, a tuba-euph band he founded in the Columbus OH area. We had a great time and I count myself lucky to have been added to his large circle of friends. Nobody does more to bring together tubists and brass players for music-making and camraderie than Bart. I know for a fact there are many low brass players who wouldn't be playing at all anymore if it weren't for Bart and the groups he's organized. While in Columbus I think he founded 3 brass quintets (and played in them simultaneously), and Tubalicious. He does all the recruiting, organizing, promoting, and librarian work when he starts a group. His Columbus activities were just a warm-up for No. Car. where his tuba mission culminated in his co-hosting the 2002 ITEC at UNCG with Dennis. Last I heard he owns 12 tubas and his job requires him to keep a Sousaphone in his office for playing as needed at Moravian funerals.

I was worried that when I reached 60, that I might be over the hill. So I threw myself a party at Fly Creek Cafe with free beer for my rowdy friends and a jam session through my 1,800 watt P.A. system.
We were rockin' the joint when the police showed up at 9PM and shut us down. (the neighbors complained)
I felt great. I couldn't be too much over the hill if the cops have to shut down my party. We played on accoustically until the beer was all gone.
