Comet McNaught

Post by SplatterTone »

Some great pictures of Comet McNaught are showing up. This is one, with the comet and the southern lights together, is beauty. There are more on the web site of the picture taker person.

This one is a favorite of mine. It shows this remarkably bright and large comet plus the Magellanic Clouds, which I've never seen. When we were in New Zealand and Australia a few years ago, it was a honeymoon and I forgot to do any star-gazing. Thus, I've never seen the Magellanic Clouds and these are stunning pictures of them.

Not any more, and never from my location, at least on the days when it might have been possible.

Now, even for the folks down under, the show is just about over.

Did anyone catch the NASA photo show from Cassini-Hugens? Some of the images are breathtaking:

The new "Pale Blue Dot".

I thought about making it an image link, but it's 595K, and it would probably drive dial-up-ers nuts waiting for it to load. I previewed it, and it was great, but I decided to just go with the URL and leave it to people to decide if they want to see it.

Look to the left (your left) of where the thick rings end, and just above the center line. That pale blue dot is us. If you want to see the original pale blue dot picture, you can google it. It's a famous picture.
