American Standard Bass

Post by IkeH »

For those of you who are bass owners or know of someone who owns one of these old great ply basses, I'd like to know the serial no. and original purchase date if possible. I'm assembling a database of these to build a serial no.-to-date of manufacture chart to more accurately show when a given Standard bass was made, along with a more detailed history of the instruments.

We (the guys at talkbass.com & myself) know now that they were made between 1935 and 1965, not from 1925 as shown on the musictrader site. And the serial no.s seem to go from 3 digits to 4 stopping about at #3000. So my #2047 is probably from the mid-50's as opposed to late 20's as originally thought.

So any info such as mentioned above along with pics of instruments or catalogue pages, ads, etc. from that period would be helpful. Send to me at iah@comcast.net.

Thanks
Ike Harris
