Although, by no means, one of the young, I am on Facebook. It is a useful networking resource. In fact I know of one orchestra which does a lot of its communicating via Facebook - if not on Facebook, one would rather be out of the loop.
I think you just have to be careful of what information you put up about yourself in relation to your privacy settings. For example don't put you are going on holiday if all the world will be able to read. However, if that is only visible to your "friends", then it is no different to mentioning to yours mates over a drink.
