I find that many who say they dislike country music are very willing to make an exception for Johnny Cash.

About Country Music: I had a major professor in college when I was very young who hated CM, so, being immature and impressionable I developed a hatred toward it, too. I ended up dropping out of college and joined the Army. When I was off duty, I found myself actually playing civilian tuba gigs which were for CM bands in Germany (yup, they used tubas back then). Upon my honorable discharge, I went back to college (different university) and had another major professor that hated CM. This time I didn't let him get to me. After I graduated, I went to a grad school in Texas and got to meet several giants in the CM world. I developed a great deal of respect for the artistry and musicianship of Willie Nelson. While I disagreed with many of his political and personal thoughts, he is a great musician and we agreed on almost everything musical. Too bad I couldn't get him to write something for the tuba.

Sadly, I never met Johnny Cash, but I would have loved to.

Yup. No country music fan, I, but there will always be a place for Johnny Cash in my music collection.
