I feel really stupid. I finally got a decent computer that doesn't take a week to download pictures, so, I went with the status quo and signed up for Photobucket, the (allegedly) free photo website. Wasn't I embarassed when I got my latest cell phone bill and discovered a $10.42 charge for RECEIVING exactly two text messages. Just be forewarned. Photobucket is NOT free.

let me guess...you entered the drawing for the free xbox 360 or whatever they were offering at the time you signed up? In the fine print of that offering says:
Just text Win to 81000 and join Bid4Prizes or play for free at Bid4Prizes.com You can join Bid4Prizes to guess for prizes via text as a premium subscriber at $9.99/mo. Your subscription automatically renews if not cancelled. Charges will be billed on your wireless phone bill or deducted from your prepaid balance.
Please people, there is stuff like this all over the internet. Be careful when you fill out anything for a contest, drawing, registration, etc. Read all the small print. Companies like this are in business just to get the one month fee. They make a fortune like this. Call them (the company that charged you and your cell phone provider) and ask for the charges to be reversed. Can't hurt to try. You must call them to cancel or you will find that $9.99 plus tax on your bill forever.

Ooops... must have missed that. Still annoys me though.

I almost got caught by something similar when making a purchase from Stacksandstacks. At the conclusion of the purchase, the screen popped up confirming the sale. At the top there was a line offering a "$10 coupon toward your next purchase" and "click here". It turns out you only get the $10 if you sign up for some rewards program that will cost you $10 PER MONTH after the first free month. An urgent reminder to "Click YES" also appeared. At the very bottom, in much smaller print, was the "no thanks. not this time" line. I clicked the latter. They can keep the $10.
In similar vein, you are often invited to take a survey in return for a free gift, which usually turn out to be some magazine offer that will have you paying for years.
