I started watching the show at about Season 3, so I don't know about the first season. I love it, though. The writing is very witty and most of the cast delivers so well.

A few thoughts:
*It is a show that is unfiltered Larry David. He tends to be darker and more neurotic than "Seinfeld" was. He is the real-life George after all.
*Jerry Seinfeld apparently softened these tendencies in their collaborative effort on the NBC show.
*This is a cable show vs. broadcast also, so not as much concern for a mass appeal.
*It might grow on you.

Eric "who loved it from the get-go" L.

It has it's ups and downs, but if you stick with it to the Producers opening night episode you won't be disappointed.

This type of thing always brings up arguments of authenticity (at least between the voices in my head).

Is that REALLY what Larry David is like?
How do we KNOW?

While it's hard to understand what someone is "really" like, there are numerous accounts of Larry David's actions in public (pre-CYE).

My favorite has to be him in his early days of stand-up yelling at the audience when they didn't laugh at his joke.
"What's wrong with you?!"
"Do you know how hard I worked on that joke?!"

Check out this "mockumentary" that started the whole Curb thing off. Most of the story is made up, but the interviews and recollections seem pretty real (at least compared to other LD stories I've heard).

EDIT: I adore this show, BTW.

I see what you mean, but I think the nasty situations thrown at Larry and the other characters are very enjoyable.
