Hoegaarden is a very typical (and very good) Belgian witbier. It is spiced with coriander and orange peel and double fermented, and therefore tastes quite different than the German Weißbiers.

big fan
I like dark beers about 9 months out of the year, but when it starts to get warm, and the grill gets fired up, I'm a big fan of the belgian style whites.
In a mix with Leffe and Stella Artois, Hoegarrten (those three making the most of my fridge right now) can be a beer to have quite regularly

Here in Belgium Hoegaarden is the bog-standard commercial witbier (=white beer) sold at every street corner. It's a great beer for a hot day, especially when you're a bit thirsty. There was quite a row over this beer recently because it's owner Ambev wanted to move production from the town of Hoegaarden, where the beer was born as the name suggests, to another brewery, in french speaking Belgium of all places. (Which flips the bird to a whole array of belgian historical sensitivities)
The move was finally cancelled because they couldn't get the beer to taste right in the new brewery.
