Bloke and TubaTinker

Post by ThomasDodd »

Hey guys. A few months ago I asked about the saddle for an Olds in-line F-attachment.

Here's what I ended up with.

That's the F-attachment/neck pipe from a Recording model and an Ambassador bell.

Still need to work on it some. The brace in the tuning slide need to come out so I can shorten the tuning slide (the horn plays flat now). I'm not happy with the way I widened the tuning slide either.

Was thinking about taking it to our resident bloke and have him modify my Studio.
I'd like it to be convertible between the straight horn and the F-attachment. But the tuning slide will need widened on it too.

What do you think bloke? PM/email me you thoughts on the $$$

Dremel

If you look at the last picture, the ferrule between the neck pipe and the tuning slide tube, you can make out the shape of the brace I cut off with a Dremel.

I don't have anything hot enough for hard/silver solder.

The saddle is made of 1/8" bar stock. The end attached to the brace is 3 thicknesses.

soldered together using pliers to hod them tight. Then the threaded hole was made and a spare screw put in and tightened to hold them while soldering to the brace.

A real repair man would have either milled it out of solid brass, or silver soldered it together.
