As a kid, I was always a band nerd. I thought football was the pre-game and post-game part of a Marching Band show. I used to play the euphonium...
Last night was the 2nd round of 6th grade city play-offs. My son's team, the Highlanders, was 1st in their division, so they had a bye for the first round. The team they played last night (the Bears), was supposed to get stomped by us. But they came out ready to play. we turned over the ball on downs on our fist possession at the 2 yard line

We followed up w/ a kickoff return to their 5, and scored 2 plays later.
At the half, the game was tied 22-22.
Scoreless in the 3rd quarter.
Then, in the 4th, the Bears scored on a LONG possession, but missed the extra point. With only 2 minutes remaining, the Highlanders received the kickoff, and managed to tie the game at 28-28. Then, they missed the extra point, but the Bears still had 40 seconds on the clock. The Bears received the kickoff, and did not score - which sent the game into overtime.
(In this league, overtime is played as follows: The ball is spotted on the 15. The team on offense has 4 downs to score. If there is no score, the ball is turned over to the opposing team, spotted on the 15, and they have 4 downs to score. Each team has equal possessions - so, if the first team scores, the second team must either score or lose, and if the first team doesn't score, and the second team does, the game is over.)
The Bears had the ball first and scored, putting them up 34-28. They went for a 2-point conversion. The Highlanders intercepted, and ran it back for a touchdown! It was scored as a safety - which put the score to 34-30.
The Highlanders then received the ball, per overtime rules, on the 15. 1st play, the QB was sacked. 2nd play, advanced to the 5. 3rd play advanced to the 2.
4th play - the last play of the game - either score or lose
