If you're making a sorted/sortable list, you might want to try Excel -- I've found it very useful (started using it around 1990 at work).

That can be done in Excel, but it's easier in Access. Have you checked the shareware sites? There might be something out there specifically written for what you want to do.

How about OpenOffice.org? Their database looks nice and the price of the whole suite is great------Free!I use them for my excel and powerpoint and it's excellent. Did I mention free?

I'm pretty sure Access has a default sort of music sorting database set up. Access can be confusing, but once you figure it out is quite powerful.

I keep all of my printed music, concert band charts, and march folio collection cataloged in MS-Access. Other posters have mentioned using a database for a CD collection. There's a learning curve with MS-Access but the results are good. Also... I'll bet if you search the web for "cd collection database free" you'll turn up some freeware or shareware that will do the job nicely.

I use Music Collector from http://www.collectorz.com/. I also use Book Collector from the same company, with a bar code reader.

What I like about Music Collector is that it will read your cd and then go to the internet to get all the cd info and automatically put it into the database. Including track info. It's not free, but has been worth the money to me.
