This auto parts guy says it does. 3M makes a similar kit for twice the $$$ for those who really like to spend $$$ on their cars. I highly doubt it is any better than the NAPA Balkamp kit (made by Custom Chemical Packaging). More info at http://www.customchemicalpkg.com.

[caveat] I haven't used it personally, but the guy working the counter next to me has had success using it both on his wife's PT Cruiser and his various motorcycles over the last few years [/caveat].

A friend of mine had the same problem with his Dodge van headlamps. He used the 'magic' headlight restorer stuff. It helped a bit... for a while. Plastic can be buffed. It's done all the time in industrial settings. You can use light buffing compound like is used to buff acrylic lacquer as long as you don't use too many RPM's or pressure that generates much heat.

So, it's more like a free titanium, TN coated mouthpiece, with a Baer valve mod and beer for the TNFJ?

Like a lot of other things, the lens restorer kits are only as good as the user. Todd is right in that they work fine. However, you have to actually follow the directions and work with the product in a patient, methodical manner. I am sure Joe would have no problem with this, but a lot of younger folks won't waste the time and/or don't have the skills to do the manual labor.

Joe's solution with the 2000 grit sandpaper is fairly popular. ( http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3925803 ) I would advise you to put a plastic wax on the lenses to preserve them a bit longer.

Meguiar's Plastix is a good product for maintaining plastic lenses:

I refurbished the "plastic" lenses on my daughter's 2000 Jeep Cherokee this past weekend using Nevr Dull. It took some time....maybe 10-15min per side! and it was finished off /rubbedout w/ Zymol cleaner wax. My son used the same treatment on his 1998 Acura Integra. Fine results!
