I agree with everything Wade said.

I also believe, though, that the maxim "there is no such thing as a stupid question" is an important one to make children comfortable with. Children need to feel free to ask any legitimate, respectful question, and that maxim often helps them feel comfortable doing so.

I am not Dr. House - I do NOT believe that everything that comes out of my mouth needs to be 100% true for all circumstances. I can say to a child that there is no such thing as a stupid question even when I know the statement is not always true.

A stupid question is when someone asks to explain something which was eloquently explained while that person was dozing off. It's an utter waste of time.

Sounds like quite a different way of life from here in PA. I certainly do not have the descrimination to deal with. (The only damage to my car is caused by stupid deer.) However my town is changing dramatically from the 98% white middle class suburb it was when I grew up here in the 60's and 70's to an almost 50% hispanic population. While I don't see myself as prejudiced, I realize there are obvious cultural differences and i sometimes wonder what the kids are really thinking of this middle aged white guy trying to get them to play mary had a little lamb on their instruments. I had a number of kids tell me the other day at their lesson, they had never heard the song London Bridge! And as you say Wade, a majority of the kids I meet and work with are nice loveable genuinely good kids, but I know their home life and life style are completely different than mine was when I was growing up. Christmas Carols? Forget it. Most of them don't know any, other than Jingle Bells (which flips them out when I tell them it is not a christmas song, but that is another story). so i usually wonder if what I am doing is relevant to them.

Keep at it Wade

anyway this question reminds me of a cartoon hanging in our facuty room. The teacher is sitting on the floor with her class (everyone drawn as cute little animlas) and she says, " Johnny there is no such thing as a wrong answer, but if there were such a thing as a wrong answer that would have been one..."

You could substitute "wrong answer" with "stupid question"
