Octagonal house wins architect award in D.C. area

My brother's friend has had this idea in her head for a house for nearly her entire life (c. age 60). She had it planned out nearly to the last detail. She basically "dictated" it to an architect who drew up the plans in "architect-ese" and the house was finally realized.

It has won some architectural award, and will be featured in a D.C.-area magazine, Washington Spaces.

Wasn't there a Steve Martin or Goldie Hawn movie that featured a very similar looking house?

Very pretty house. I would love to see the floor plan to see how rooms are laid out inside the octagon.

Another interesting experimental home that never caught on was Buckminster Fuller's Diamxion house. The have one at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. We toured it last summer. Very much ahead of its time.
