Please recommend a ~$300 student trumpet

Post by pg »

I have a friend looking for a new trumpet for her son for Christmas and has roughly $300 +/-. I suggested a used one but that a much bigger can of worms. What would you recommend? Thanks,

There are several choices for under $300. She might check the Brasswind at www.wwbw.com. This will buy her son a shiney new import but I think she would be better off putting her dollars into a nice used Bach, Bundy, or Yamaha.

Try Music Go Round

There's Music Go Round stores which might also yield a "fairly" new trumpet. I agree she'd get a better used horn with
that price than a shiny new one

I have good luck with a couple of Olds Ambassador trumpets and cornets.
They can be purchased for $150 and up on E-bay.The mid-70's are usually
preferred.

In a similar family spot I suggested a nice student Blessing horn. I'm not sure where they finally purchased by there's Mid-South Music in Memphis that sells them very reasonably and the owner is a very reputable.

Have them call up all the trumpet teachers in town and try to find a used one. I'm very happy with my $225 Getzen cornet. It's not gorgeous but it plays fine.

Thanks for the testimonial, Mary Ann. Glad the horn is doing OK for you.

when I saw what that beautiful old Holton trumpet went for, I was really sorry I did not bid on it. Rats-a-ruba.
I must be a collector at heart.

Yea... I thought it would bring at least twice what it sold for. Oh well... that's the way auctions go. It went to Japan. Probably a collector.
