You really need to stop smoking whatever it is you are smoking, or at least stop posting when you have no clue what you are talking about.

Read Title 13 of the U.S. Code...specifically, Section 221 which states (paraphrased for brevity):

a) Refusal to answer or willfully neglecting to answer a census workers questions is punishable by a fine of not more than $100.
b) Willfully giving false answers is punishable by a fine of not more that $500.
c) No person shall be compelled to disclose information related to religious beliefs.

There is some debate as to whether the Sentencing Reform Act of 1984 (Title 18, Section 3571) changed those maximums to $5,000 and $10,000. Many people believe that is the case, but I'm no legal expert and frankly can't tell.

But I can tell FOR SURE that there is a potential for a fine. "There is no penalty" or "it's totally up to you" is just ridiculous and really irresponsible to say.
Well I like living in the world of reality and not just look for things to complain about---ANYONE who thinks the fed government are going to take time and money to prosecute people for not participating in the census is being way paranoid. My mother is a census crew leader and we talked about this--if an individual refuses to participate, fine...they notate that they made the attempt and move on. It is VERY IRRESPONSIBLE and IRRATIONAL to suggest the government is going to go after people in the current political climate--GET REAL.

I quite agree with you that the fed prosecuting anyone for not participating in the census would be wasting time and money, and about the paranoia.
But, about the " It is VERY IRRESPONSIBLE and IRRATIONAL to suggest the government is going to go after people in the current political climate--GET REAL." ? On this I disagree in some instances. Can you imagine a prominent Tea Party person being identified as non-cooperating? Or anyone else who has made it a point to question this present administration on some piece of legislation that's been rammed down our collective throats? This administration is rooted in political expediency and down-and-dirty street thuggery; can we doubt for a moment that they would "go after" such an "enemy" of this regime? This is not paranoia, but good old common sense, that they would react in the same way they have done in the last couple years--go for the throat. These are sad times.

The current administration has no reason to go after the tea party--none. As much as I may disagree with what the tea party is doing, they have every right to do so and the administration realizes this.

I only wish that those who question and critique the current administration would have held the previous administration to the same standard. Maybe if the tea party movement would have started 8 (actually more like 30) years earlier perhaps we would not be in such bad shape now?

Let's just say that I, and, according to every poll I've been able to find, the vast majority of Americans,do not hold your views on the subject--this administration does not hold that dissent is the right of the people and must be countenanced. They have used every unsavory method out of the Sol Alinsky and Chicago-thug playbook to defeat the will of the people, and I do not look for them to stop any time soon--voluntarily.
But, this is getting too close to Sean's dictum re: political discussion, so I will say no more on the subject out of respect for Sean, you, and everyone else on this forum. November is coming! 8)
