Band Geeks -- a musical about us!

Post by DonShirer »

The famous Goodspeed Opera House is presenting the new musical comedy "Band Geeks" at their Norma Terris theater in Chester, CT, through June 6.
I happened to catch it on Friday (International Tuba Day!?) and can vouch that the show is funny, and although few of the tunes are hummable, they are all catchy. The show reflects accurately the feelings of angst among the members of a struggling high school marching band. If you are in the New England area, try to catch it. If not, cross your fingers that it has a life in other venues. Oh, by the way, the protagonist is a tuba player (he has an old Eb souzy with lots of character - i.e. dents), and he and the other cast members actually play their instruments pretty well on stage.

I cannot resist quoting one exchange between two trumpet players.
SPITZ: Did you double or triple tongue that passage?
NATALIA (in a Bratislovian accent): Three!
SPITZ: Natalia, you are going to make some man very, very happy!
