Rebinding Books

Some of my books are starting to deteriorate a little bit. Mostly the spiral bound ones like Arbans and Rochut (I have the green Wesley Jacobs versions), but the corners and covers are starting to get a little frayed on the others. So I was wondering what TubeNet does to preserve their books and restore/repair the binding. None of my books are destroyed or unusable, I just want to keep it that way.

My wife used to work at the music library at the University of Nothern Colorado. She said that there are a lot of companies that do book bindings and a goolge search for book binders in your area will bring up lots of options. You can also ask your local libraries or college/university libraries if they have someone they use or would recommend. She also said that it won't be cheap and if they are books you use a lot a hard binding would hold up better.

I take books like the old style Arban's to Staple's (the office supply store). They'll chop off the binding, and put in a new plastic spine. I do this so they'll lay flat on the stand. Perhaps they can help you.

I laminate the front & back covers and have them coil or spiral bound. I don't like comb binding, as the plastic gets brittle and breaks over the years. I have a trombone Arban's that I bought in 1970 that is in really good condition, in spite of its almost daily use.
