Spitballs??

"Musicians Friend" has something called spit balls. One size for trumpets and one for 'large bore'. The brief description calls them soft discs, foam balls, (cant be both) you blow through your instrument to clean it. What gives?

I might see it for trombone but anything with valves..? Any comments? Anyone tried them? Need a compressor to get them out again..?

On the more 'reasonable' side, has anyone tried the tuba cleaning brush set from HW Products? It has no metal parts

Feel free to use them...but make sure you have a repair tech on speed dial when it is lodged in your instrument and won't come out. I personally don't like them...They cannot replace a good cleaning.

I know nothing about this, but on the surface this really sounds like a very, very bad idea!

I've used them in the past when I played trumped and liked what they did. I wouldn't consider using them on anything larger than a euphonium.

See a tech for a good cleaning.

If you want to keep your horn in fighting condition, get a flexible brush to scrub out your mouth pipe, and keep your rotors lubricated. If you play a piston horn, get a flexible brush for your mouth pipe, a cleaning rod and a clean t-shirt for swabbing your valve casings and you are set.

Don't put your horn back together until it is bone dry and away you go.

Cleaning your instrument isn't something you want to cut corners or skimp on time.
