For those of you in the USA/Canada: Have you ever heard this 1960's song by Herman's Hermits called, "No Milk Today".

Was wondering if this song was ever banned in the USA or just really wasn't popular.

One could interpret the meaning of the lyrics of "No Milk Today" (during the days of delivery of milk to customers' homes) innocently or, if they wish, go off the deep end with ridiculous explanations. When this song was on the charts, "gay" still meant in most circles, "happy."

It was NOT banned from the US airwaves and was as popular as some of the other Herman's Hermits tunes.

OTOH, Jerry Samuels' "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha Ha" WAS banned from top 40 radio for many years.

Really? What's the story behind this, if any? Were stations worried about being seen as ridiculing the mentally ill or was there some other more sordid reason, like the song was ruining the days' youths?

There was some 'nut' mental health advocate here in Southern Indiana back in the 80's who tried to ban the use of the word 'crazy' from local advertising. The guy gave fits to a business owner here "Crazy Larry's Waterbeds". There was also a Italian restaurant here called "The Crazy Tomato" that he picketed and tried to shut down.

Man.... THAT's CRAZY!
