Titanic rant
My wife watched Titanic for the umpteenth time today. I don't get it. It is sad - a large amount of people lost their life due to careless, arrogance, and oversight. Yet they make some mushy movie about it and people flock to watch hardworking immigrants drown and kids become orphans, all in the name of "romance." I really hope that in 80 years Hollywood does not make some mega-buck special effects "blockbuster" about the WTC towers crashing to the ground, centered around some pretty-boy wuss and a whiny lady who bares her breasts. On the off chance I was alive when they did that, I would pay some prepubescent boy band to beat up the aforementioned wuss, that would be worth the price of admission alone.

Well, you at least shoulda finished quoting my entire sentence!MartyNeilan wrote:centered around some pretty-boy wuss and a whiny lady...

The 1958 movie, "A Night to Remember" depicted the sinking of the Titanic for what it was, a tragedy that killed hundreds and not the background for a sappy love story. BTW, they already made a movie about the Towers a year ago, a factual documentary using actual footage of the events that has gone on to critical acclaim BUT no pretty boys smokin' and seducing rich engaged women.
Although it would be rather fun to watch the likes of Hanson beat up DeCaprio; for anyone else over the age of 13 it would probably pose little challenge.

On September 12, 2001, we were taking bets on whether or not this would happen. I speculated that before making WTC, some lame director would first make Challenger.MartyNeilan wrote: I really hope that in 80 years Hollywood does not make some mega-buck special effects "blockbuster" about the WTC towers crashing to the ground, centered around some pretty-boy wuss and a whiny lady who bares her breasts.

Probably the only funny line in that movie (well, the only one that made me laugh) --Captain Sousie wrote:Better than seeing 'Miss Congeniality' for four different flights straight. Sandra is good looking but not enough so to make that movie bearable.
They were trying to decide where the bad guys were going, and somebody said something about the Alamo. This cameraman character then goes,
"I forgot the Alamo!"

Doug, that reminds me of a T-Shirt that was out a few years ago: "The boat sank, Get over it."Doug@GT wrote:Doug "who notes that despite the box-office numbers and academy awards, you don't hear much about this movie anymore"

People are so fascinated with this movie because of the general feeling of impending doom they feel in this world, at this point in time. Whether people want to admit it or not, we are living at the end of this age, and the Israelites are going to get shook up pretty bad, along with the rest of the world.
There is something romantic about death, and something even more romantic about time winding down. As it winds down now, people escape by watching movies that aren't real. Everyone feels it. Everyone knows. They feel it is necessary to ignore in order to live. Will it be five years or ten? one year or a day? It is important to look for the signs and take a good guess. Matt 24 is a good place to start.
But to live is to know the truth about this world and get out of it while you can. There is only one source for truth and it can be found in The Bible. The living Word of the Father. A letter to His creation for understanding. Written for us, the people of this age, for only we can unlock the mysteries and understand.
The time of sorrows is coming to an end. God's government is close at hand. Jump off the ship if you can.
And keep buying DVDs. It keeps me comfortable.

Re: Titanic rant
My (now 10 yrs old) son solved this for me the first tim he and my wife saw it. She can no longer watch it without remembering his comment which ruins the whole move.MartyNeilan wrote:My wife watched Titanic for the umpteenth time today. I don't get it.
The morning after the sinking, we see our leads in the water. The femal lead kisses the now dead and frozen wuss. My son, exclaimed in a sickened tone, "Oooh, she kissed a dead guy!"
Now if only he could do something similar with Gone With the Wind, my life would be much more bearable.
