MW2145 Tuning issues
I was finally able to convince the powers that be in my unit to buy a CC tuba for the band, more specifically me since Im the only one that can play one at the moment. It's finally here and first impressions from playing is Im glad its here so I can move past doing everything on a Miraphone BBb. Question for everyone out there who has played a MW 2145, how was the tuning? I noticed right off the bat that open partial blows 15 cents flat, with everything pushed in. 1st valve top to bottom is perfectly in tune. Strange to me but maybe not a surprise to everyone else?

If you are switching from playing BBb, the flat tenancy could be a result of buzzing a lower frequency (buzzing a B-flat while fingering a C). Perhaps experiment with buzzing the pitch on your mouthpiece with a tuner and then trying to get the horn to match it. You may also need to experiment with different mouthpieces, to see if the issue stems from that piece of hardware.

Re: MW2145 Tuning issues
Ive been playing on a YCB621. The BBb's Im talking about are owned by the band so the other members use those. After playing on it for a day the tuning has gotten noticably better, with the exception of the trigger. Could be crazy but Im pretty sure its only supposed to be a whole step difference, but its literally a quartertone between A and Bb. Very strange to this guy.

I'd imagine it's intended to be tuned to a flat whole step to help compensate the sharpness of the low registerkwbeck81 wrote:Ive been playing on a YCB621.
