Rick Denney hasn't posted anything since February. Maybe he gave up.

If so, I'll miss him a lot more than I miss Sean.

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

No, just allowing myself to be interested in other things for a little while. And working my butt off. I keep thinking I'll be able to be lazy and unproductive like Bloke thinks all gubmint employees are. I just haven't figured out how to sign up for that deal. I'm working harder than I ever have.

Impressive. Exactly the kind of post that illustrates the point.
How so?

When I started posting here a good 15 years ago, the whining and arguing really didn't come up. Heated discussion sometimes, but no disrespect.

Then I stopped playing tuba for a while and lost interest. I came back in 2006 (was it 2006? It says so right under my name, so that's what to check), I found a lot of characters on here disrespecting people with disrespectful posts and it was genuinely disheartening. Also not terribly entertaining for most people to read.

So I trolled here for a little bit, maybe a couple years ago or so. That didn't help much, and I stopped that and have been trying to be helpful and cooperative around here for the most part. That also doesn't help.

Something else that doesn't help is a 2 page thread about how it used to be better, followed by no contributions to actually change anything, and more of the snarky disrespect that these same "old school" posters (many of whom haven't used this forum as long as I have) are complaining about.

My suggestion: do something about it! Geez! No one is forcing anyone to post on this forum all day. Tired of the same old stuff? Start a different forum! Bring your friends! Write about whatever you want! I've done that myself, and that forum has been going strong (and moderated, and invitation only, which are also things you can think about) for nearly ten years. Let this place return to an informative, entertaining forum, and post the things you want to discuss in a place where you can get a good discussion going about it! It's an actual, positive message that works! No joke!

Shouldn't we have a tuba smiley that's playing the theme from "Jaws" !?
