My wife and I drove through there on New Year's Eve on the way to the Twin Cities. I thought it was pretty cool that it was -5 degrees outside, and you could still go to an indoor waterpark.

Warning -- I hope you like crowds, and I hope you like kids. Not my scene, but obviously a bazillion other people love it. Don't be a curmudgeon and you'll be fine.

Stay away from the tourist traps and waterslides. Do the Ducks! Go to Paul Bunyon's for a big breakfast!

I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

Re: Wisconsin Dells...
Well it's really a beautiful area. Personally I'd avoid the Dells tourist stuff like the Tommy Bartlett water show etc. - but that is some folks kind of stuff.
There are a couple of very interesting (depending on your interests) places to see in the Baraboo area.
One is the Circus World Museum - Baraboo was where Ringling Bros. Circus started and was the winter home for the circus. They have circus performances and a wonderful collection of circus wagons etc. The second attraction is Mid-Continent Railway Museum. A really nice collection and a nice long ride on their tracks. Only remaining CNW steam engine 1385 is there. They have dinner trains etc. so check the website to see what events are happening at the museum while you are in the area. They have always been a stop when I've done tours with the CCCA - Classic Car Club Of America and I know they have had old car shows in the past on the premises. It is a real step back in history. They did suffer greatly a few years ago with the big floods from the river and I know they have put an amazing amount of effort to bring it back, but it is a big challenge with an all volunteer operation and funding. It is also a challenge to keep steam running these days as the new Federal rules on boiler time means very expensive/time consuming tear downs / rebuild on all the steam engines come much quicker these days.
