There's a difference between "legalizing it" and "decriminalizing it." If anything, this is just making it legal for the police to continue to look the other way when people are smoking up.

I think the bigger problem is that people will now try DWH (driving while high) in addition to/instead of DWI.

I think the really interesting story will develop over a few years: the affect on the illegal market in Colorado and Washington. The details are similar but not identical between the two states - Washington forbids home cultivation, for example, and there are major siting issues for retail that might be different in Colorado; don't know how different the tax levels are. I don't think the illegal market is going to be wiped out overnight - did rum runners go out of business the morning after Prohibition was repealed? - but a generation from now, with luck and a well designed regulatory structure, there should be fewer young men in jail.

Colorado cops haven't cared in a long time. Don't jaywalk though...
