There are mostly "dog" people and "cat" people. There are very few "dog and cat" people. This becomes obvious whenever this conversation comes up. Different strokes.

Hate to spoil your illusion but you never "own" a cat. For cat lovers that is usually part of the fascination. Not sure you can own a dog either, but at least they play along with the game.

Schlep -

You have my deepest sympathy. When we lose one, I am not worth shooting for at least a month. A non-pet person just doesn't get it - just like a non-musician just doesn't get some things.

My dog bit my nose last night. I must've bumped into her while she was sleeping and scared her. She snapped up at me and didn't break the skin, but it left a bruise in a place I never thought it was possible. I yelped "aagh!!," she froze immediately, and then submitted/apologized by laying on her back and asking for a belly rub. She didn't get it, but I knew she was sorry for what she did.

Love that dog.

I just realized that I've neglected adding my condolences. I guess I was too busy taking the thread in a different direction. Sorry Schlep. I really do anguish with you. I remember holding my Beau in my lap as he quietly breathed his last. A treasure lost as I'm sure was Bud. I think I'll start another thread so this one can remain true to the original point.

Sorry too, Schlep.

Schlep,

A true loss indeed, dogs are incredible companions. Looking forward to the pictures of your next "Best Friend".

Thanks!
It was all too obvious after the first few days that the house was too empty, so the search began. We found a 3-month old Australian Shepherd/Fence Jumper mix that was free to a good home. And while I referred to my recently deceased dog as "Bud", his name was actually "Sparky". The new pup as a result has been named "Bud". Pics will follow.
CONGRATULATIONS! :D :D :D

The Fence Jumper breed is renowned for its even disposition, good choice there.
